Why Include Thematic Imagery and Activities?

Fun

Numerous educational studies show that students of all ages learn best when we are having fun. Pretending to be a thematic character for jumping is simply fun!

Engagement

Active engagement is very different from passive engagement.   A themed activity is designed for active engagement that promotes learning.

Mind Body Connection

By bringing the outside world into the studio, students can connect ideas that were previously only in their thinking into their body for expression.

Enthusiasm

Beyond mere engagement is actual enthusiasm for the activity.  With enthusiasm students will easily have more energy and develop greater strength and endurance.

Dynamic Range

Going beyond fast/slow or strong/light to work to inhabit qualities of animals or weather helps students to authentically tap into dynamic ranges in a full bodies manner.

Peer Connections

Many of the activities can be done working in partners and small groups leading to enhanced connections and support with peers. This creates a safer learning environment!
