Mariah-Jane has 38 years experience as a dance teacher, including 10 years as a studio owner. She is an RAD Registered teacher, mentor and supervisor as well as a the 2024 recipient of the Innovation in Dance Teacher Award. Mariah-Jane is also a certified Evans Laban based modern teacher.

She loves creating and working with imagery and linking up great learning, functional anatomy and creativity.

Mariah-Jane believes strongly in very specific methods to help to Draw-Out our students potential, instead of the traditional Pour-In methods.

Going Beyond Romantic Love:

Sharing your Love of a Pet/Animals

•Ask Students to express/show your love for your pets/animals
**Use sensitivity and awareness to the fact that not all students will have pets, and therefore can share what animal they love
•Bring in photos to share with the class
•Share a quick story about your pet
•Dance about your story, or dance like how your pet moves
•Dancers can join small groups to create a dance together with other dancers who own/love the same animal ie. a dog lovers dance, cat lovers dance, hamster lovers dance •Bring in a stuffed animal if you don’t have a pet
•Dance with a partner...your stuffed animal as a representative of your pet or favourite animal

Creative Explorations:

•How would you dance WITH a dog, cat, fish and match what they can do •What does a love duet dancing look like with your favourite animal?

•Chose your favourite animal that you would likely never have as a pet ie. elephant, panda bear, dolphin

•Example: I love squirrels. If I was dancing with a squirrel I’d have to move with sharpness and quickness and scurry along beside the squirrel
