Beginner Basics

Workshops which focus on movement fundamentals are very popular for adult dancers.   The added cognitive ability of adult learners, means that deeper understanding of a the why and how of basics concepts, can really accelerate progress. 

Learning Outcomes is specific to each topic and the level of the dancers in the class.

Older Teen Beginners are also welcome.

Developing Artistry and Expression

 

Even adults who are not interested in performing on stage, are interested in the expressive elements of dance.

Movement Dynamics for Expression

In this workshop, dancers will experience the continuum of expression thru the lens of Laban Movement Analysis.

Introducing the concepts of Weight, Space, Time and Flow and their application in dance, students will discover their natural movement affinities and dis-affinities.

By experiencing the ends of the spectrum of each element, dancers will be expanding their expressive abilities.

Application will be made to common dance movements and exercises.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Greater range of expression
  • Understanding of personal movement biases

 

Imagery Creation & Application

The use of imagery is very powerful and yet often under utilized by both teachers and dancers.

In this workshop, dancers will be given some easy tools for understanding how to create imagery they can use to support movement creation. 

Equally important is how to effectively apply and notice the effect of images provided by dance teachers and knowing how to tweak if necessary.

Imagery selections for anatomical function and artistry will be shared and explored.

  • Ability to generate personal imagery that speaks to their preferences
