Overview of What you will Learn in this Course
More Details Below
This course is a blend of live (in person/zoom) and course materials.
The goal of the course is to give you new tools, skills and strategies borne out of a deeper way to look at what is possible for you to do as a student teacher.
Merely organizing students into pairs and holding hands is the responsibility of a teacher's assistant.
But, moving into the territory of being a student teacher means you will be even more interactive in the studio, have greater responsibilities and more opportunities to positively influence the students.
The many areas of study and skills for The Radiant Dancer can all be housed under the umbrella of the 3 pillars:
- Integration
- Embodiment
- Expression
As a student teacher of The Radiant Dancer, you will guided methods to address each of these areas.
The 3 Elements of a Radiant Dancer

The 3 Pillars of The Radiant Dancer have been developed over almost 40 years of teaching. It is an innovative approach to the teaching of dance, and you will gain an insider's peek at the method and strategies.

Integrated
While in class, it is necessary to be in whole brain and integrated state in order to LEARN. The inner and outer environment greatly affect this state.

Embodied
Truly noticing and sensing your body is the key to making progress. Guidance verbally, visually and with touch are the common methods within a dance class.

Expressive
What is dance without a chance for YOUR personal expression? The opportunities, encouragement and environment will either allow expression or suppress it.

Mini-Intensive Content
What YOU Will Learn in this Mini-Intensive
Integration: Providing a Safe Learning Environment
Without a sense of safety within the learning environment, the student cannot learn. Therefore, the first priority is always creating a sense of community as the context for safety in the studio. The teacher is in charge of the overall environment, but a student teacher is in a unique position to discreetly build a sense of safety with the opportunity for individual attention.
How to support the sense of safety and well being of each child in the class will be a primary focus of the training.

Embodiment: Helping Students to truly be IN their Bodies
Truly feeling the body is not a given even in a dance class. So often, there is so much to see and hear, that to also feel is as added challenge to students of all ages.
Being there to continually bring students safely back into their bodies is high priority for the student teacher and there are many methods to do so.
Expression: Encourage Unique and Full Expression
Nurturing artistry and musicality is a specific skill that goes beyond simply reminding students to smile or clapping the beat. Modelling full commitment and vulnerability to full expression will support these young dancers even beyond the demonstration of the teacher.
Discover how to actually help to release the spark inside each dancer while also practicing your own in each class.

Classroom Management and Student Behaviour
Assisting in creating a safe and positive learning environment is a key responsibility of a student teacher.
How to actually do this has many layers, methods and strategies that are appropriate for a student teacher. This includes how to physically direct and move students, as well as how to give clear verbal instructions that are easy to follow.
Observational Skill Development
How you observe the teacher in the class is one of the greatest resources for your learning. However, guidance is necessary on how to observe with specific goals.
Learn how to listen to what sort of cues and corrections are given. And learn how to notice the class structure and lesson planning elements. Observation of hands-on placement (if allowed) is also a huge piece to developing teaching skills.

Hands On Corrections and Safe Touch
A discussion on how to touch safely is of paramount importance. Not all studios allow hands-on corrections and that is to be respected. However, safe touch to move students about the studio space is often necessary especially with the youngest students and will be addressed.
If allowed to use hands-on guidance, there is much learning and bonding that will be able to develop. Specific placements will be addressed tailored to the needs of the student and the movement.
Real Life Application Opportunity
A Brain Dance workshop for teachers has a section on day two where young students will be invited to come and participate and show the real life example of the Brain Dance.
Student Teachers are invited to also participate and have the chance to interact with students.

Contribute to YOUR Studio
Do you love your studio? Most students consider the dance studio a second home. And with that, comes a strong desire to wish to contribute to the culture and success of the studio.
Being a great dance student is one way.
